Mario and Sonic go to head to head later this year
For years, they've been arguably two of the most recognizable characters in video gaming. But never have the twain met. That is until now.
Nintendo's Mario, he of Super Mario Bros. fame, and Sega's Sonic hedgehog, are finally appearing in a game together. The two will compete in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, which will appear this holiday season on the Nintendo Wii and DS platforms.
The game has three announced events so far: table tennis, 100-meter race and swimming. The games will also feature other players from each character's respective universe such as Luigi, Knuckles, Yoshi, Tails.
Officials at the two companies said they started thinking about a collaboration shortly after Sega won the rights for the Beijing Olympics a little over a year ago.
"Sega and Nintendo have the two most iconic characters in the history of videogaming," said Simon Jeffery, CEO of Sega of America. "When we acquired the 2008 Beijing Olympic license, we thought that created the opportunity these two companies needed to bring the two characters together into one game."
Nintendo's George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing, said fans will get a kick out of seeing their favorite characters compete against each other for the first time.
"Each character has been strong for over a decade, so it will be very interesting for people. They will really look forward to seeing both in the same game," said Harrison.
From past gaming with Mario and Sports games I can't seem to get on with them from gameboy to NES to Cube They just don't cut it for me. Maybe this may change my thoughts specially with a online gamage use.
